81st Annual Daily News Golden Gloves Tournament

 

 

 

The 81st annual Daily News Golden Gloves tournament will begin Jan. 24, at the B.B. King Blues Club in Times Square. An astounding total of 1,045 boxers - 934 men and a record 111 women - have signed on for a chance earn one of the most sought after and recognized prizes in all of boxing: a pair of diamond-studded Daily News Golden Gloves. While not a record, so many boxers entered the first Golden Gloves in 1927 that the Daily News had to stop accepting entries after they topped 1,200. Those numbers haven't been seen since the 1970s.

The Grand Harmoy Palace, 98 Mott St., will host an evening of Daily News Golden Gloves boxing, Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008. It will start at 7:30 p.m.
The oldest and largest amateur boxing tournament in the world, more than 1,100 boxers have entered the 81st annual Daily News Golden Gloves.
