The Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade & New Year’s Day Firecracker Cultural Festival is the largest winter public event in New York City. The last three year’s cultural festival attracted a combined 500,000 spectators. A cultural celebration of color, culture and spectacle; the events were covered by domestic and international media. These include the Associated Press, Reuters, USA Today, New York Times, Daily News, New York Post, MSNBC, TVB Hong Kong, Live with Regis and Kelly, China’s Central and Southern T.V. stations, all Asian-American media outlets, among many, many others.

The largest pan-Asian event on the East Coast, this colorful spectacle features traditional lion and dragon dances, beautiful floats, antique cars, beauty queens, karaoke contest, ice sculpture display, dog parade, pig races, marching bands and cultural performers from all across Asia; including China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, and many numerous Hispanic culture and dance groups and floats will be joining us this year. Started to promote solidarity within the Chinatown community, traditional Asian/Chinese culture the parade has evolved into one of the city’s major winter tourist attractions and largest winter parade in the East Coast. It also receives extensive worldwide media coverage.

A few years ago, Governor Pataki signed into law a Senate Bill (S-3961-B) commemorating the Asian Lunar New Year in New York State, which is an official recognition of this important day for many Asian American New Yorkers.
